Scratch Resistance
Quartz makes Silestone high resistant to scratches, because only three other minerals are harder: diamond, sapphire and topaz.
Cutting with a regular knife will not easily scratch Silestone, but the knife will get dull. It is recommended not to abuse its characteristics and use a cutting board.
Shock Resistance
Silestone® has great shock resistance, in most cases considerably higher than other products used for similar applications (like granite, solid surfaces, etc) which provides safety in the kitchen when handling hard objects like pans and pots.
This resistance is achieved thanks to the hardness of quartz, the polyester resin that provides flexibility and the vibrocompression system used during the manufacturing process.
